About Steve
I make travel documentaries that go beyond the landscapes, to paint the bigger picture: the history and true culture of every place I visit.
Steve Hänisch has made travel films since 2012 and has run Back-Packer.org, his travel magazine, since 2011. He lives in Hamburg and spends much of the year in Portugal and South America.
His films take one destination at a time: the full Torres del Paine circuit, the Lemosho Route up Kilimanjaro, Bhutan’s Druk Path, winter road trips through Lapland and Norway, and long portraits of Java, Colombia and Iran. From 2016 to 2023 he also made Globetrotter for Deutsche Welle TV.
Planning a trip of your own? His guides, ebooks and travel planning calls are on Back-Packer.org
